Zielona Góra County - come, see and... return

Welcome to the tour of Zielona Góra County, the biggest county in Lubuskie Voivodship. One glance at the map and one can see that it is situated in the central part of the region – on the Oder and Bóbr rivers. A geographer might also add that its northern part lies in the area of the Łagów Lakeland and the Zbąszyń Groove, its central part covers the Czerwieńsk Height and the Kargowa Valley and its southern part – the Nowa Sól Lowering (according to regions by Kondracki ).

Zielona Góra County covers the area of 1,571 km2, more than half of which is forested, the forests being truly beautiful. In early spring nature is waking up to life, trees become greener and birds start their  singing. In the summertime, warm and sometimes even hot, the air smells of pine needles and the warm ground. Already in June one can go bilberry picking or mushroom picking for chanterelle (Cantharellus cibarius) or, with a bit of luck, bay bolete (Boletus badius).  During summer holidays the most experienced pickers can find in the moss July porcini (Boletus edulis), the parasol mushroom (Macrolepiota procera) and in the grasses growing on sandy soil – the red pine mushroom (Lactarius deliciosus). By day, one can hear the hard-working woodpeckers and at night – hooting owls. Autumn enchants one with a palette of colours and permeating fog, which turn the forest into a fairytale landscape. One can hear troating buck and see doe flashing in the distance. Even in November, when the mornings meet you with ground frost, crazy mushroom pickers set out in search of the yellow knight (Tricholoma equestre). Then December comes and nature apparently falls asleep. Even then, however, on the snow-covered paths one can find traces of hare, doe or wild boar.

The county boasts 33 lakes with the total area of 400 ha. One can relax, angle and sail on the lakes. Bathers will not be disappointed, either. These are the natural assets of the county. Are there any others that might encourage tourists to visit this region?
