The Lubuskie Military Museum - Drzonów

The Lubuskie Military Museum in Zielona Góra, located in Drzonów (Świdnica Commune) is the second largest and second in order of importance collection of  militaria in Poland.

It is located in a Classicistic palace in Drzonów. Since the beginning it has been managed by dr Włodzimierz Kwaśniewicz, an expert in weaponry and the colours, a great lover of Polish sabre.

Over a period of more than a dozen years of its functioning the LMM has collected over 3 000 exhibits. These include: aircraft, military helicopters, heavy military equipment and weaponry. Over the past 25 years the Museum’s employees have compiled the second biggest collection in the country, consisting of tanks, armoured personnel carriers, armoured recovery vehicles, rocket launchers, cannons, howitzers, heavy machine weapons etc. In the Museum in Drzonów visitors can also see small arms, cold steel, protection weapons, military uniforms, documents, photographs, models, medals and decorations, as well as works of art depicting batallistic themes.

The collection of heavy military equipment as well as aircraft and helicopters are exhibited both in a 3.5-hectare park and in an exposition pavilion.

A particular attraction is the open-air fortification skansen presenting Soviet and German schools of military engineering. It shows wartime and post-war fortifications from the Lubuskie Region. The exhibition is interesting for its arrangement. For example, a wooden and ground shelter with a fragment of trenches is presented, all surrounded by barbed wire entanglements and cannons. Since 2005 the LMM hasparticipated in a prestigious international cultural event – the European Long Night of Museums.
The Museum in Drzonów is regularly visited by guests from various parts of Europe. This little village, situated among forests and far from major communication routes, is frequented by 25,000 visitors a year. The Museum has its own website: http://lmm.ezg.pl.
